Saving our Alpine Lakes – What can we do?

Sponsored by the Wanaka Branch of the Royal Society of New Zealand, “Saving our Alpine Lakes – What can we do?” is open to the public and aims to inform people about the state of our alpine lakes and who is responsible for their maintenance and welfare.

Two prominent scientists, Professor David Hamilton and Dr Marc Schallenberg, will present an overview of the present state of the lakes and the potential problems that may develop in the future.

There will be short presentations from representatives of organisations that have statutory responsibilities towards the lakes, including QLDC, ORC, DoC, LINZ, MfE, MPI, Guardians, Fish & Game Otago.  There will also be brief presentations on behalf of the recently formed Lake Wanaka Trust, and the Alpine Lakes Research and Education Centre.

The audience will have an opportunity to put questions to a panel of the representatives.
